This week's challenge is to create a CAS bag with a tag. 

 

I used a the new Funky Round Tag Fri-Dies from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps (our sponsor this week!).  I have wanted a circle tag die for quite some time so I'm thrilled to have this one and I know I'll get lots of use out of this die set.

 

 

 

 

Ok, so let's talk about my tag.  I was going for a pumpkin dressed up as a bat for Halloween.  I had a horrible time with the eyes and the mouth.  I ended up letting my 9 year old choose the eyes because she said the eyes I had were too creepy. I tackled that mouth on my own...so, my pumpkin/bat looks a bit aggressive. LOL  I love it though!  It's a bit startling when you first look at it but it grows on you. It's a vampire bat. LOL

I made a simple Halloween tag using my favorite witch image which is so much more fun to use since I bought the coordinating die.

 

I can hardly wait to see all the entries for this challenge!  The last challenge entries blew me away.

Placecards and test tubes

(I'm not really back, I'm still recovering from surgery)

These are the simple treats I made for my daughter's Halloween party/sleepover.  I used the Tombstone Placecard (it's only a $1!) and literally whipped 5 placecards out in just a few minutes.  I stamped the skull image (Inkadinkadoo set) and added a glitter chipboard letter in lieu of each girl's full name.  My daughter wanted hers to stand out a bit so I added glowing orange eyes.

For the parting gift, I decided to use the Martha Stewart test tubes I've been hoarding--nobody appreciates them like I do! I used a stamp from Papertrey Ink's Halloween Tags 2009 on soft stone cardstock added an orange twine bow and glue dotted it to the tube. Super simple and what kid doesn't love a tube of M&M's?!

Halloween Fun continues...

This card is kind of creepy looking, isn't it?

I made this for the Moxie Fab gradient challenge using Basic Grey Eerie paper.  The pattern paper is so dramatic that I only added a ribbon treatment and a sentiment.  The sentiment is from my Halloween Henry stamp set from StampInsanity stamps.

This card uses October's sketch from Sheetload of Cards.  Again, I used pattern paper from Basic Grey's Eerie paper pad.  I snagged the 6x6 pad last week at my LSS.  This card also uses Halloween Henry and my favorite sentiment from that set.

  I had a bit of trouble coloring Henry's face on this one.  I accidentally got a little gray on one side and tried to get rid of it.  So, his pigment is a bit off and I decided that Henry got a bit of sun on that side , which is so NOT good for a vampire, and he's healing.  My girls loved this excuse!

I am sure I will have more Halloween stuff to show you before this month is gone.  This is my favorite time of year and I will have some Fall stuff to show you too.

I'm really in a Halloween mood...

and Halloween will be here before we know it.  Hubby is out of town with our camera, but luckily I already had these photos blog ready.  I was thinking that I better get to posting this stuff or I'll run out of time.

This first project is a door hanger that I made using my Halloween Henry stamp set--it's on sale right now in the Stamp Happens Shop.  I do not know who makes this pattern paper.  I have used almost the whole sheet and can't find the strip with the name on it.  I love it though, wish I'd gotten 2 sheets.

This project is a Halloween Tag (obviously) and I used the witch image from my PTI set Spooky Sweets II.  I thought this would be cute on a You've been Boo'd  type  thing.

The next treat box uses the bat and sentiment from my Ghoul Friends stamp set.  I embossed the bat on the box using Zing embossing powder in black glitter finish.  The template is a My Timeless Template and I've completely forgotten the name of it.

Wildflower Kids Halloween

Are you ready for some Halloween stuff? I am, but then I'm always ready for Halloween! Today is the official release of Wildflower Kids Rubber Stamps! I was lucky to receive the new set Ghoul Friends to design with and I love it! See the set in full here at the Stamp Happens Shop.

I call this guy Little Edward and he actually comes with a body, a couple of friends and some sentiments. I colored him with Copics on Kraft Cardstock and then made him shimmer with some Sky Blue Shimmerz--I wanted him to sparkle a bit. Eddie looks a bit green in the photo...perhaps he's sampled too much candy already. I used MOJO Sketch 104. I love circles and I love this sketch. You'll probably see it again.

I embossed the bat using Zing Embossing Powder in Black (Glitter Finish) and added it to break up the white in the big circle. These sets are only available in the Stamp Happens Shop and are high quality, deeply etched red rubber mounted on cling foam.

Creepy yard video

Here' the video I mentioned in the previous post. One funny thing that happened last night was when my 4yo went to a door and an old lady answered and asked Natalie what she was and Natalie said, "A Bat" and the old lady said, "So am I!". Natalie didn't get it but my husband and I did.

Halloween slideshow

As I've mentioned before, we live in a small town. It's actually a city, but the population is only about 1,400. Anyway, many people go all out on Halloween with their decorations and it's a tradition that the Commons get rolled with toilet paper on Halloween. The Commons is the area in the heart of town that is park like with a huge field that is used for soccer. I often wonder if the city minds cleaning up this mess every year...

The house of some friends of ours always has a creepy yard, I mean really creepy. The husband was a set builder in Los Angeles before they moved here. I have a video of their house so you can see what I'm talking about. There's nothing like being there though and walking up the sidewalk with the fog rolling out of the (grave)yard and the creepy sounds. Another house always does something huge too. Last year they had a circus theme with a clown and games in tents. This year they did Elvis. They had a stage set up, had a showing of Elvis performing in Hawaii and gave out lei's. Very cool. I got a scarf with Elvis's face drawn on it. Another house had a Beetlejuice theme. It was VERY cool. They made a model of our downtown and their own house. It was awesome. It was full dark when we got there so my pictures weren't that great. My kids don't know how lucky they are to live in a place like this.

Our walk home and Halloween decorations

Natalie and I went to Elizabeth's school today to man the craft table at the class Halloween party. I must brag on Natalie because her behavior was excellent--that's something I rarely say! I took some pictures of the party and Elizabeth will be posting them on her blog this weekend. The walk home was so pretty that I snapped a couple of shots. The leaves are different colors and the grass is still green. I wish you could feel how nice it is here today. Natalie didn't even need that coat I put on her.

I thought I would post how Elizabeth decorated the front of our house for Halloween. Tomorrow morning I will be pulling it all down. She did this all on her own. She likes to arrange things and right now wants to be a professional organizer when she grows up--isn't that cute. The decorations are an eclectic mix of things she found in the basement. She even put a dead plant on the steps because she thought it would add some creepy.

Creepy Treats Box

I saw an awesome box on Michelle Wooderson's blog and had to case it somehow. She used an old tin crayon box and since I didn't have one of those...well, I used an old Bundt cake mix box from Williams-Sonoma. I've held onto this box for a long time and am happy to finally have a use for it. I'm going to fill my box with candy and have it sitting around during my Halloween party that's coming up in less than two weeks. Sheesh, I better finish planning the menu.

I have some mini clothes pins from Hobby Lobby that I inked in black. I really need a smaller button, but I didn't have one. I am pleased with how the box turned out. I used my PTI set Spooky Sweets II along with PTI Plum pudding and spring moss cardstock.

Halloween Wishes

It's Monday Sketch time! This week's sketch is provided by Ms. Angela Lemmons. Of course, I made a Halloween card. I used my PTI Spooky Sweets II stamp set and last year's Creepy Crawly dsp from SU! I had trouble with the main image, the idea in my head wasn't working out so well on paper. I decided to emboss the white part of the main image with the Swiss Dots folder and that made all the difference. I stamped some polka dots in Brilliance Ink Moonlight White (using PTI Polka Dot Basics stamp set)on the card base in lieu of a panel and I stamped large dots on both sides of the white ribbon using a sponge dauber dipped in Pumpkin pie ink. This is my first time stamping on ribbon and I can't wait to try it again. I love this witch image even though she was a bit of a chore to cut out.

More Halloween testing...

***UPDATE: The clear material is a Write-on transparency sheet. I bought a pack of 100 from Office Max for about $20.***
Please overlook any obvious stamping mistakes. I'm just playing around with some different ideas right now. I decided to make a clear version of the 2-5-7-10 box with flap and a mini pillow box. I used my PTI Spooky Sweets II set along with Black and White Stazon. That White Stazon sure dries out fast and is harder to clean off my stamps than the black--even with Stazon cleaner. I stuffed both items with orange tissue paper in the hope that it would allow the stamping to show up better.

I did not clip the ribbon on the pillow box for a reason. I am going to fill it with candy and then tie the ribbon. I may have a tiny tag dangle from it too saying, "Eat if you dare".

Halloween testing UPDATED: added template info

I've been itching to make one of those cute cardstock backpacks I've been seeing all over SCS, but have been too lazy. I decided to test one out and enlisted my 4yo daughter to design it for me. She thought a white backpack with spiders crawling on it would be great. I made a 2-5-7-10 box and rounded the edge of the flap with my CM circle cutting system. I think it's cute, but I will make a better pocket for the front when I make a "real" one. (I'll make a pocket with a flap.)

I also made a mini pillow box--pillow boxes seem to be popular these days too. I put a piece of transparency on the inside to cover the hole. I cut the pillow box with my wishblade. I'm not sure what I'm going to put in them yet, but I've got plenty of time to decide.

I'm working on a template for the mini pillow boxes and I'll be back on Monday with a sweet sketch and hopefully a template for it. Have a great weekend!

UPDATE!!! I'm having difficulty doing a mini pillow box template. It's going to have to be re-drawn in another program, so...it probably won't get done soon. My left wrist and elbow has been hurting the past couple of days so I need to take a rest. I found a cool site that has tons of FREE templates and she has a pillow box. Check out Jersgirl.

Weekly Sketch Challenge 3

Amy and I are back with another Monday Sketch Challenge. This is an easy sketch to do and I made 2 cards today. Don't forget to see what lovely creation Amy has cooked up for this sketch.

The first card is a Halloween-ish card using my new Papertrey Ink set, Spooky Sweets II. I used SU cardstock in Vintage Violet (thanks Angela!) and managed to find a scrap of Halloween dsp from a couple of years ago that matched! I was also happy to use some of my leftover vintage violet ribbon, even though it's uber skinny. The green cardstock is from PTI and it's called spring moss.

The second card is a bit more formal and I used almost all Papertrey Ink products ( the exception is the flower scallop stamp). Cardstock is aqua mist and spring moss. The dsp is from the Everyday Blessings collection. I used aqua mist ink on the scallop flower but you can't see it well in the photo and it's VERY light anyway. I took this picture outside so I could get a truer picture of the colors. They were looking pretty washed out with an indoor shot.
